I want to tell you a little bit about myself and my practice. I never wanted to be a “corporate” lawyer, working at a big firm for a hundred hours a week while the partners and other associates were upset that it wasn’t one hundred and thirty hours a week. That might sound like an exaggeration, but it’s not – I worked at a few of those places fresh out of law school and I have a few friends that went that route: it’s not an exaggeration.

Fortunately, my husband and I discussed and agreed this is what neither of us wanted. When the opportunity to strike out on my own presented itself early in our marriage, I took it: I was “lucky” enough to work at a small law firm that had me working a hundred and twenty hour weeks (and mad because it wasn’t a hundred and forty) despite knowing that I had newborn twins at home. I was “lucky” because I was on an hourly wage while working those one hundred and twenty hour weeks – and the crisis point came when the firm’s managing attorney finally noticed how much he was paying me and wanted to force me to work for a much lower fixed salary for the same amount of work.

With my husband’s support and encouragement, I told the firm’s managing attorney I was no longer interested in the job – even though I knew more about the current case than anyone else at the firm, I could no longer continue to work the long hours assigned to me or could endure the ever-changing moods of the firm’s managing attorney. Ultimately, I realized I could be a mother, wife and attorney at the same time.

Over the next two decades, I built up a thriving California Estate Planning Practice (there’s a lot more to Estate Planning than just drafting Trusts and other related documents) and since 2020 I have shifted to conducting my practice remotely – and through it all I have met and helped so many wonderful people. I’ve built my practice on my core principles of honesty, integrity, empathy, and the simple belief that no matter what the details are: I am a Human Being helping other Human Beings.
